Happy National Cookie Day! How are you celebrating today? With a warm chocolate chip cookie, fresh from the oven? Or maybe a seasonal flavor, like gingerbread or peppermint? We’re celebrating by getting a head start on our holiday baking… and maybe sampling a few, too. Each year we like to share our favorite holiday cookies with our friends and family in the weeks leading up to Christmas. All it takes is a handful of cookies, a small box, some wrapping paper, festive tissue and twine and your gift is ready for giving!
Here’s what we’re cooking up this year:
Gingerbread Cookies – nothing entices like the delicious aroma that fills a kitchen when there’s gingerbread baking in the oven! This delicious, quick-to-make, crispy Gingerbread Cookie Mix is a great treat to make and share with the whole family. We decorated ours with Royal Icing and nonpareils, but get creative with your decorations! Cinnamon candies or small gum drops also make great decorations.
Linzer Cookies – our sweet Sugar Plum Jam (or your favorite jam!) is sandwiched between buttery sugar cookies and dusted with confectioner’s sugar for a treat that is almost too pretty to eat! Almost. With a box of Sugar Cookie Mix, a jar of your favorite jam, and confectioner’s sugar for dusting, you’ll have these beautiful cookies in no time at all. For a twist, try arranging thinly sliced almonds on unbaked cookie tops, with cut out center, to make wreath-like cookies. We recommend heating up your jam in the microwave for a several seconds before spreading on your cookie bottoms for best results.
And don’t forget the peppermint! We always enjoy making our Chocolate Peppermint Crinkle Cookies. Watch your cookies transform in the oven from confectioner’s sugar covered balls to chewy, dark chocolate cookies with a pretty “crinkle” effect. They’re a melt-in-your mouth delight!
The cute little trees and snowflakes? We used our leftover Sugar Cookie dough to create classic “spritz” cookies! You’ll need a cookie press (check out our lightweight, easy-to-use cookie press here) and maybe come with a variety of holiday shapes. Sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles, and bake!
